PROSTATE CANCER AWARENESS

Research shows that the sexual side effects from prostate cancer treatment are the most painful and most common; yet less than half of men experiencing issues are directed to clear, practical and helpful resources.

To fill this gap, Movember developed Under the Hood, a sexual wellbeing tool and information resource to connect men living beyond prostate cancer (and their partners) to information and support around sexual health, intimacy, wellbeing and recovery after treatment.

Under the Hood equips men with the tools and knowledge they need to self-manage sexual health after treatment and improve their quality of life through increased intimacy, sexual satisfaction and confidence.

Looking closer to home, here are 7 Movember prostate cancer projects that our generous community have helped fund here in the UK. None of this would have been possible without your support.

When it comes to prostate cancer, early detection is key. For men, even if it feels far from your radar, it’s important to know that factors such your age and family history of prostate cancer can put you at higher risk of developing the disease.

It’s why I’m reaching with some simple yet lifesaving health tips and facts to read and share with those around you:

  • If you’re 45-50 years old, or you know someone edging towards that age group, I encourage you to have a chat to your GP about a PSA test.
  • If your brother or father have experienced prostate cancer, you should check in with your doctor around age 40-45.
  • If you’re Black or of Caribbean descent, you’re at higher risk of developing prostate cancer and should chat with your doctor at age 40-45.
